| What is
Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a hands-on approach
to better health that deals with the body holistically by
focusing on diet, exercise and manipulation of the spine and
extremities. Doctors of Chiropractic are neuromusculoskeletal
specialists, which means they focus on the relationship between
the nerves, muscle and skeleton.
How will Chiropractic help me?
Chiropractic will help you by maintaining
your spine in proper alignment. Every organ in the body is
under some type of neurological control. By having your spine
is in proper alignment, you will ensure that nerve impulses
reach your organs and this will help them to function properly.
As an example, the Vagus Nerve helps to slow the heart rate
but, can also stimulate the stomach and digestive tract. By
placing the spine in proper alignment you can prevent a malfunction
of nerve impulses and improve the functionality of your body.
What is a manipulation?
A manipulation, also called an adjustment, is a high velocity,
low amplitude thrust applied to a specific joint to provide
therapy. There are a variety of techniques used by chiropractors
and it's important to find a chiropractor who is right for
you.
Does chiropractic
manipulation hurt?
On rare occasions a chiropractic manipulation may cause minor
discomfort. Discomfort is often related to the severity of
your pain or illness. The sooner you begin treatment after
you have realized their is an issue, the less discomfort you
will experience and the fewer treatments you will require.
How long will it take
chiropractic to work?
Like any medical solution, a course
of treatments is prescribed for relief from pain. Each case
is different and after your initial visit with a chiropractor,
you will be able to work out a program that is right for you.
Is Chiropractic manipulation
dangerous?
Chiropractors practice and perform hundreds to thousands of
manipulations per year with no ill results. There are less
documented cases of injuries each year from manipulation per
year than from mis-prescribed drugs, drug overdose, bad drug
combinations and treatments in the medical profession.
What is that popping
sound?
The most notable immediate result of a manipulation
is a cavitation (a pop or click sound) which is often heard
when a manipulation is performed. This cavitation is the result
of a rapid release of air bubbles within the joints that have
been under pressure. The cavitation occurs more often than
not, but it does not have to occur for the manipulation to
be effective.
Do Chiropractors prescribe
medication?
Sometimes we recommend vitamins, minerals and other supplements
to maintain proper physical health. |
